Operation Hours: Hamburg Airport is open 24 hours. However, certain shops, food concessions, on-site accommodation, and public and private transport services may not offer services throughout day and night. Also, services like airline check-in and baggage drop hours may vary with the flight schedule. Therefore, it is advised that you check with the airport.

About Airport’s Terminal

Hamburg Airport has two terminals, Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2). All departures are handled in Level 1 and all arrivals are handled in Level 0. Both terminals are interconnected via the Airport Plaza, which itself has a consolidated security area and other facilities, including the S-Bahn suburban railway station.

Travelers can easily find various amenities, such as information desks, lounges, ATMs, conference rooms for business travelers, newsagent, courtesy telephones, restaurants, restrooms, facilities for handicap passengers, retail shopping outlets, ticket counters, baggage claim, and locker facilities, gift shops, transportation, car park and more at the airport.

Hamburg Airport offers convenient and affordable parking options to travelers. Parking is available at both terminals. One can choose from on-site parking options, off-site car parks, and garages that are located in the nearest proximity to the airport. These consist of short-term and long-term parking.

Security Check-points

There are security checkpoints at the airport’s terminals. All passengers are required to pass through the security checkpoints.

Help Desk

When you are at the Hamburg Airport and need help, there are information desks to assist you. Here, you can enquire about your flight or find other facilities easily at the airport. They are open 24 hours and can be found at the airside and landside of terminals.

Airport Office can assist you with general queries about the airport, flights, hotel reservations, deposit keys, documents, faxing and copying, and more. It is located in the Airport Plaza, Arrivals Level.

Wi-Fi and Device Charging Stations

Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the terminals at the airport, in case you want to connect your smartphone, tablet, or laptop to access the internet. Free Wi-Fi (connect to “HAM AIRPORT FREE WIFI” network) internet service is offered for up to 24 hours. However, passengers are required to register with their e-mail address in order to receive passwords to access the wireless internet.

There are internet kiosks available as well. These are located on the landside of T2, Arrivals (3 workstations and a printer); the airside of Level 1, Pier, at Gates A18-20, A21-26, and Gate A/B37.

In addition to Wi-Fi internet access, mobile and laptop charging power outlets are also available throughout the airport, in case you need to charge your laptop and/or phone’s battery.

Baggage Handling and Storage

Luggage Lockers: Lockers and luggage storage facilities are available at the airport. Left Luggage provides paid locker facilities and luggage storage services at the airport. A €3 ($3.52 USD) processing fee is required in addition to the fees for storing items. The facility is located at the Departures level, Terminal 2.

Luggage Wrapping: Luggage wrapping services are available at the airport. Bags are wrapped in plastic to protect them from damage and theft. It is located near the Check-in area.

Luggage Trolleys/Carts: Luggage carts are available at the airport. These can be found in front of terminals and parking lots.

Porter Services: Porter services are not available at the airport.

There is a Baggage Claim facility available at the airport.

Lounge and Business Conference Room

At Hamburg Airport, passengers can use public lounges, VIP lounges, and business conference rooms, which may be available for free or paid in order to access these facilities.

Duty-Free stores are also available at the airport that sells all kinds of merchandise, including souvenirs. Heinemann Duty-Free stores are located on the airside of Pier, Gate A20, Level 1, and Airport Plaza, Level 1.

VAT Refund is located on the airside of Global Blue, Level 1, Pier, near Gate A20.

Cafe, Bar and Restaurants

Finding snack and beverage options should not be a problem as there are many local and popular nationwide food chains at Hamburg Airport. These cafeterias and restaurants are located throughout the terminals and concourses, giving you the best options to eat and satisfy your pre-flight craving.

Food concessions throughout the airport operate with varying schedules. A wide variety of dining options are also available and can be found at both the landside and the airside. These include Scoop.

The Edeka supermarket sells fruits, vegetables, bakery, beverages, and more. It is located in Arrivals Level, Airport Plaza. It is open from 0600 till 2200 hours.

Other Amenities Available at Hamburg Airport

There are other amenities that are available to passengers at the airport. These include:

Prayer Room: The airport offers a prayer room located on Level 2, Terminal 1. It is open from 0600 till 2200 hours.

Children’s Play Area: The airport offers a play zone for children. These are located on the airside of both Terminals 1 and 2, Level 3.

Strollers: Strollers are available from the airside of Hamburg Airport Livery.

Dental Clinic: tryDent dental clinic is located on the landside of Airport Plaza, Level 2.

Medical Services: The German Red Cross (DRK) medical center at the airport caters to passengers that are in need of emergency medical care. The facility is located near Departures, Terminal 2. It is open from 0500 till 2300 hours.

Pharmacy: Metropolitan Pharmacy in Arrivals, Level 0, Airport Plaza. It is open from 0700 till 2100 hours on weekdays and 0800 till 2100 hours on weekends.

Massage: The Chi Mas Institute offers both traditional Chinese and western massage and acupuncture treatments. It is located in the Pier, at Gates A20 and C15, Level 1, Departures.

Shower: You can use the premium shower facility at the airport to refresh yourself after a long flight. A fee of €5,00 ($5.87 USD) is charged with shampoo included. An additional fee of €10,00 ($11.75 USD) will be charged if you require a towel. The facility is located in Airport Plaza, Arrivals Level and Terminal 2, Arrivals Level.

Laundry: Laundry services are offered by ZWO24Textilpflege at the airport. It is located on the landside of Level 0, Terminal 1.

Casino: The Spiel-In Casino is Hamburg Airport’s “little Las Vegas”. It is located on the landside of Terminal 1, Level 2. It is open from 1200 till 2400 hours.

Observation Deck: When you have plenty of time at the airport, simply relax and watch planes take off and land from the vantage point of the airport’s observation deck. It is located in the adjoining Model Exhibition; Terminal 1, HMS Host Terrace, and Terminal 2, Mövenpick Terrace. Access to this facility is permitted between the hours of 0900 and 1700 hours.

Travel Agencies: The airport’s Travel Market consists of more than a dozen local travel agencies that can help you with last-minute rides.

ATM: ATMs are available at the airport. You can swipe your bank card and withdraw cash at the airport’s ATMs if you’re running low on cash or need to make cash payments at other services or stores. You can find ATMs located at airside and landside areas of Terminals.

Currency Exchange: The currency used in Germany is Euro (EUR or €). Currency exchange facilities are available at the airport. The facility is located in the airside of Departures, Pier Gate C08, Terminal 1; airside of Pier Gate A20; and airside of Level 0, Baggage Claim. It is open from 0545 till 2145 hours.

Banking Services: Banking facilities are available at the airport.

Hamburg Card: The airport offers a premium Hamburg Card to passengers for ease of public transportation. The Hamburg Card includes unlimited rides on public transportation in Hamburg city and discounts of up to 50% on restaurants, shops, and popular attractions.

The cost of the Hamburg Card starts at €10,50 ($12.33 USD) for an entire day’s validity and another cost around €21.90 ($25.73 USD) for an entire day plus regional routes. Additional days can also be added to either card.

Hamburg Cards are sold at The Airport Office located at Arrivals level, Hamburg Tourist Information Offices, HVV service points, and ticket machines.

Hotels On-site and Nearby Hamburg Airport

Leonardo Inn Hotel Hamburg Airport: The hotel is located about 500 meters from the International Terminal. It is within walking distance or you may also take the free airport shuttle that is available on request.

Ibis Hamburg Airport: The hotel is located about 20 minutes from the airport. A taxi ride to the hotel can cost you around €8 ($9.40 USD).

Ground Transport Options To and From Hamburg Airport

Getting to and from Hamburg Airport should not be much of a hassle as you will find transport options. You can quickly find a convenient mode of transportation to meet your travel needs.
