Situated at a distance of about 2 km (1 mile) north-east of Denpasar, the capital city of Bali in the Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia, lies its second-busiest airport called officially I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. Although it is locally also called Ngurah Rai International Airport and Bali Airport.
The airport is named in honor and memory of I Gusti Ngurah Rai, a Balinese, who fought against the Dutch during the Indonesian Revolution that took place in the year 1946.
