Situated in the suburb of Mascot, New South Wales, and at a distance of about 8 km (5 miles) south of downtown Sydney in Australia, lies the country’s busiest international airport, called Sydney Airport.
The airport is also called Mascot Airport (named for its location in the Mascot suburb) and Kingsford Smith Airport, which is named in honor and memory of Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, the country’s pioneering aviator.

Operation Hours: Sydney Airport is open 24 hours. However, certain shops, food concessions, on-site accommodation, and public and private transport services may not offer services throughout day and night. Also, services like airline check-in and baggage drop hours may vary with the flight schedule. Therefore, it is advised that you check with the airport.
About SYD Airport’s Terminal
Sydney Airport has a total of three passenger terminals, Terminal 1 (T1), Terminal 2 (T2), and Terminal 3 (T3). While Terminal 1 handles all international destinations, Terminals 2 and 3 handle domestic destinations only. All terminals are connected via shuttle transfers, runways, and concourses for convenience.

Mascot Airport offers convenient and affordable parking options to travelers. Parking is available at the terminals. One can choose from on-site parking options and off-site car parks that are located in the nearest proximity to the airport. These consist of short-term and long-term parking.
Cell Phone Lot: The airport may not provide a Cell Phone Lot to persons waiting for arriving family members, relatives, or friends.
Valet Parking: Valet Parking service is not available at the airport.
Free parking at the airport is only offered for a limited period.

Facilities and Services Available at Sydney Airport

There are security check-points at the airport’s terminal. All passengers are required to pass through the security check-points. The area before security is called pre-security (or landside), while the area after security is called post-security (or airside).

In addition to Wi-Fi internet access, mobile and laptop charging power outlets are also available throughout the airport, in case you need to charge your laptop and/or phone’s battery. The facility provides AC and USB power outlets at the airline gate areas.
Baggage Handling and Storage
Luggage Lockers: Lockers and luggage storage facilities are available at the airport. The service is operated by SmarteCarte. A fee of $9 AUD for small items and $12 AUD for large items (such as suitcases) is charged for up to 24 hours. Their offices are located in T1, Arrivals, opposite Blooming Trails Florist; and in T2, Arrivals, near Carousel 6.
Luggage Wrapping: Luggage wrapping services are available at the airport. The service is operated by Secure Travel. It is located on the landside of T1, near Check-ins D and H.
Luggage Trolleys/Carts: Self-service luggage carts are available at the airport for a fee of $4 AUD per cart. These can be found in the Baggage Claim area. Smaller trolleys are available for free.
Porter Services: Porter services are not available at the airport.
There is a Baggage Claim facility available at the airport.
Make sure to check with your respective airline as to what carry-on items (and their size) are allowed.
Lounges and Business Conference Rooms
At SYD airport, passengers can use public lounges, VIP lounges, and business conference rooms, which may be available for free or paid in order to access these facilities.

Air New Zealand Lounge: The lounge is located on the airside of T1, near Gates 59-63. Access to the lounge is via membership programs.
Plaza Premium Lounge: The lounge is located on the airside of T1, International Departures, near Gate 24. Access to the lounge is available to American Express cardholders only.
Passes The House: The lounge is located on the airside of T1, Pier C, near Gates 51-63. Showers are also available. Access to the lounge is by paying at the door or using a prepaid lounge pass.
REX Lounge: The lounge is located on the airside of T2, Domestic Departures, near Gate G2. Access to the lounge is by paying at the door along with proof of REX Airlines ticket or using lounge membership programs.
Qantas Club: The lounge is located airside of T3, near Gate 10. Access to the lounge is through using membership programs.
SkyTeam Lounge: The lounge is operated by Plaza Premium and is located in the airside of T1, International Departures, near Gate 24. Access to the lounge is by paying at the door.
Virgin Australia Lounge: The lounge is located on the airside of T2, near Gate 47. Access to the lounge is by paying at the door along with proof of Virgin Australia Airlines ticket or using lounge membership programs.

Stores and Duty Free Shopping
There are plenty of shops that can be easily found throughout the airport’s terminals and concourses. These shops sell a wide range of items, from children’s toys to fashion accessories for adults. Kid’s Cinema: The Kid’s Cinema provides a comfortable area for kids to watch children’s TV shows. It is located on the airside of T1, near Gate 33.
Baby Care Facilities: The airport provides nursing rooms to passengers traveling with infants. One is located in T1, Baggage Claim area, while another is can be found in T2, both landside and airside areas.
Massage: Mandarin Massage offers services, like foot and body massage, reflexology, and other relaxing services. It is located on the airside of T1, near Gate 34.
Public Shower: Public showers are available at the airport. One is located on the airside of T1, Departure Level, near Gates 24, 31, and 51. Another can be found in landside, Departure level, near general Check-in counters A and K.
Post Office: Australia Post operates postal services at the SYD airport. Passengers can drop their last-minute letters and postcards at the airport’s mailboxes. Purchasing stamps, postcards, and envelopes, money transfers (via Billpay, Bank@Post, Western Union), purchasing insurance, and more are also available at the facility. It is located on the landside of T1, opposite the pharmacy. It is open from06:15 till20:00 hours.
Medical Services: The Sydney Airport Medical Center is located in T1, Level 3.
Pharmacy: Airport Guardian is located in the airside of T2, near the food court; Amcal Pharmacy is located in the airside of T2, near Gate 51; and T3 Pharmacy is located in the airside of T3, near Food Court.
Travel Agent: The Flight Center travel agency operates at Sydney Airport. Passengers in need of assistance with purchasing last-minute flight tickets or making ground transport arrangements etc. can approach the travel agency’s desk. It is located in the airside of T1, Level 2, near Check-in G.
ATM: ATMs are available at the airport. You can swipe your bank card and withdraw cash at the airport’s ATMs if you’re running low on cash or need to make cash payments at other services or stores. The service is operated by ANZ Bank, Travelex, and Westpac. You can find ATMs located in both T1 and T2 terminals.
Currency Exchange: The currency used in Australia is the Australian Dollar (AUD or $). Currency exchange facilities are available at SYD airport. The service is operated by ANZ Bank, Travelex, and Global Exchange. Their counters are located in T1, T2, and T3.
Banking Services: Banking facilities are available at the airport. The service is operated by ANZ Bank. Their counter is located T1, Level 2, near Check-in J.
Hotels On-site and Nearby Sydney Airport

Mantra Hotel Sydney Airport: The hotel is located just a few minutes of walking distance from T2 and T3 terminals. Shuttle transfer service may not be available.
Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport: The hotel is located less than five minutes from the airport. Shuttle transfers are provided by Super Shuttle service, which costs a one-way fare of around $8.50 AUD per person. Shuttles operate daily, from 05:00 till 23:00 hours. There are designated pick-ups at each terminal. Reservation is not required.
Ibis Budget Sydney Airport: The hotel is located less than 10 minutes of walking distance from the Domestic Terminal. There is airport shuttle transfer available daily, at a frequency of 30 minutes from 05:00 till23:00 hours. A one-way fare can cost around $7 AUD per person. Pick up area is between T2 and T3 (Bay 4), and also at the International Terminal (Bay 12).
Rydges Sydney Airport: The hotel is located across from T1. There is a courtesy shuttle transfer service available to the terminal daily from 05:00 till22:45 hours, either the Rydges Sydney Airport Hotel shuttle or the Sydney Airport TBus service, depending on the time.
Citadines Connect Sydney Airport: The hotel is located about 15 minutes of walking distance from the Domestic Terminal. Shuttle transfers are available and the service is provided by Super Shuttle service. A one-way fare can cost around $8.50 AUD per person.
Ground Transport Options To and From Sydney Airport
Getting to and from Sydney Airport should not be much of a hassle as you will find transport options. You can quickly find a convenient mode of transportation to meet your travel needs. There are several ground transportation options available to travelers that make visiting nearby places and other places of interest very convenient, quick, and affordable.
Many travelers often find shuttle services to be very favorable as it saves them plenty of time when getting to hotels and/or airports. Free shuttle buses provide travelers with easy connectivity. Public bus transportation services are available for the commute. It is both affordable and convenient and can get you to places in no time. Buses 400 and 420 operate routes between SYD Airport and down-town Sydney.

Kingsford Smith Airport is connected with train and metro transit systems for commuting. The Airport Link underground train takes about 15 minutes to transfer passengers between T1, T2, and T3 terminals. However, there is a charge of $6.70 AUD per person.
Limousines are available for hire at Mascot Airport. Rates may depend on the destination you are headed to. There are several companies that operate limousine services to and from SYD airport. Royale Limousines has its desk located in T1, Arrivals level.
Car Hire Service
You can hire a car at the SYD airport if you are in the mood to cruise around places in the city. There are several companies that offer cars on hire/rent at the airport. The car hire/rental agencies or companies have their counters and stands located on-site, on the ground-level transportation area. However, there are courtesy shuttle services available from the airport.
The companies or agencies that offer car hire/rental services at the airport include Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, and Thrifty.
Taxis are available, if you need a ride to a hotel or want to go sight-seeing. Fares are charged by taximeters. Taxi stands can be found on-site, on the ground-level transportation area.

Ride Sharing Service
