Baggage Allowance
Austrian Airlines accept both hand luggage to carry in-cabin and large-size baggage as checked baggage. But they do have some limitations on the size and weight of the baggage to carry. And it also restricts the baggage number to carry in-cabin or as checked baggage.
So there are certain things that are strictly prohibited to carry as baggage on the aircraft of Austrian Airlines. More of that, if you are carrying overweight or oversize baggage and even excess baggage too, then you will be charged suitably for the same.
Baggage in-cabin:
Baggage will be permitted to carry in the cabin depending on the class you will be flying in Austrian Airlines aircraft. So for general Economy class passengers are permitted to carry 1 hand baggage in-cabin which must be weighted not more than 8 kgs and dimensions of the hand luggage must be within 55 x 40 x 23 cm.
When flying in the Premium Economy Class of Austrian Airlines then passengers will be allowed to carry 1 hand baggage of weight maximum of 8 kgs and when your booking is in Business class of Austrian Airlines, then you can carry up to 2 hand baggage types of weight 8 kgs each, but remember weight must not be exceeded. And the dimension for the baggage to carry either in Premium Economy Class or in Business class, the dimension will be the same which is 55 cm in length, 40 cm in width, and 23 cm in height.
If your handbag is one such folding cloth material type of bag, then the dimension may exceed 57 x 54 x 15 cm. In Austrian Airlines, along with hand baggage, every passenger is permitted to carry one personal item bag like a handbag, a travel pouch, or a laptop bag whose size must be within 40 x 30 x 10 cm dimension.
When you are flying with hand baggage in-cabin, then you have to store your baggage in the compartment scape over the passenger seat. So that you will get more space for a comfortable journey. And the handbag personal item can be placed under the passenger seat in front of you.
Just for your knowledge, if you are been sitting near the emergency seat of the aircraft, then you have to keep your personnel item also over the passenger seat, as under the seat, you can not keep it due to some security reasons.
Checked Baggage:
Checked baggage is those bags that will be carried out by Austrian Airline’s baggage compartment without costing any money for transit of your checked baggage. But Austrian Airlines has permitted checked bagged with some limits on the size, weight, and number of baggage. This limit may change with the class you will be traveling in, on which routes you have booked your flights, or by checking the status of the frequent flyer.
So in the Premium Economy Class or general Economy Class of Austrian Airlines, every passenger is permitted to carry baggage which must be weight within the range of 23 kgs and in Business class weight may exceed up to 32 kgs but not more than that.
And the dimension of the baggage whether you are flying in Premium Economy Class or in Business class or normal Economy class, must not exceed 158 cm (sum of all the sides, length, width & height). And if you carry oversized or overweight baggage you will be only permitted to carry it after they will be charged according to the amount of weight and size you are exceeding.
When you are flying within European routes in Economy or Premium Economy class than any adult or child od above 2 years are permitted to carry only 1 baggage for free whereas when you have tickets with a Senior Citizen fare ticket then along with 1 free checked baggage allowance another 1 baggage of 23 kgs. And if you are a frequent flyer member then you are permitted to carry 2 baggage of 23 kgs each.
But when you are flying in Business class of Austrian Airlines then passengers being an adult, or child beyond age or below age 2 years or being the frequent flyer booker then are permitted to carry 2 checked baggage of 32 kgs each. But being the senior citizen fare ticket then another 1 baggage of 32 kgs will be additionally allowed to carry.
For international routes, Austrian Airlines baggage allowance clicks on the link and gets more information in detail.
Travel with infant
So when you’re traveling with an Infant or child on Austrian Airlines then, you should be knowing that from the few days a baby is born to the age of 2 years age are considered to be an infant for Austrian Airlines. And above it but below the age of 18 years are considered to be the child in the flight.
So the child below the age of 2 years is not permitted to have personal seat in the aircraft and has to fly sitting over the lap of the adult with whom they would be accommodating in the flight.
But once your child has crossed the age of 2 years, the child has to seat in the one of passenger personal seats after getting on board. Children must be accommodated with any adult whose age must be more than 15 years. And child below the age of 2 years only is permitted to sit over the lap of an adult whose age is beyond 15 years.
So the booking of the child or infant on Austrian Airlines is exactly a 10% fare of the adult ticket fare. This will be only applicable until your baby’s age is below or age is 2 years old. But after that, you have to pay for the ticket when your child’s age has been exceeding 2 years old.
When you are flying with a child or infant then you are not allowed to sit over the seat near the emergency gate or the exit gate. For the baby facility, Austrian Airlines has a baby meal over the flight which you have to book at least 3 or 4 hours before the departure flight timing.
On the long route journey, you can hire the baby basket service of airlines, which is actually a type of cot, in which you can keep your baby and can have a relaxing flight journey when you are flying over some long-distance routes.
Pregnant women
Austrian Airlines do not restrict the travel of pregnant women on flight. But if you have stepped into the 37 weeks of your pregnancy, then it’s a point of worry. And before the flight day, you must get approval from your doctor by a check-up and you also have to come up with the medical fitness certificate which you have to submit to the airlines before you board the aircraft of Austrian Airlines.
Its been preferred that you should avoid traveling if you have any complications in your pregnancy to save the woman’s life as well as the life of the infant inside the mother. Just look over the legal paperwork for the country flying, causing some countries to restrict the travel of the pregnant woman who is in her 37 or more weeks of pregnancy.
Pet Policy
Austrian Airlines welcomely accept animals to travel in both the aircraft’s in-cabin & in the cargo hold. This will depend on the size and weight of your pet and sometimes which country you are flying to has some specific rules for pet travel also depends. So for traveling your pet along with you where ever you go, then you have to follow some instructions for the same.
You are permitted to carry up to 2 pets in the same pet carriage which must meet the requirements of the Austrian Airlines pet policy. The age of your pet must not be less than 12 weeks, though when you are traveling to or from the USA routes then the pet must be at least 16 weeks old.
Pet in-cabin:
When you are permitted to carry your pet in-cabin the, you should lock up your pet in the pet carrier. But just remember that pet carriage must be leak-proof, string, and hard so that they if even try to bite, fail to do so. The Pet carrier must be cleaned and odor-free. It should have a proper air ventilation system. And pet carriage must be of that size which can be fir under the passenger seat in front of you and even comfortable & spacious for the pet inside it.
So to get permitted to take away your pet in-cabin, then your pet must meet the weight requirement for the pet policy which is 8 kgs or less. If get exceed then your pet will be sent to the cargo hold of the aircraft. And the pet container must be measured at a maximum of 118 cms total on all sides. So the dimension of each side of the container should be 55 cm in length, 40 cm in width & 23 cm in height.
In some countries like Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Hong Kong, and South Africa, pets strictly have to carry as freight without even caring about the size & weight of the pet.
Pets in the cargo hold:
So there are some animals whose size is not suitable to carry them in cabin. So they will be transit in a cargo hold of the same aircraft you will be flying. So when you have to send your pet in the cargo hold, then you have to look over the limited size and weight of the pet including the pet carrier which has been instructed by Austrian Airlines.
So while you are looking for your pet to travel, you have to mention the weight of your pet and on which basis they will inform you about your pet will travel either in-cabin along with you are in-cargo hold of the same aircraft. Apart from this, they will even see the available space in the cargo to send your pet in the cargo hold.
So your pet’s weight must not be exceeding 14 kgs which does not include the weight of the pet carrier. When you are sending pets in cargo then, each pet container will be locked up with only 1 single pet.
Your pet container and the behavior of your pet will be checked by the staff present at the check-in point for your pet to take away for cargo hold travel journey on the same flight as Austrian Airlines.
