Situated on the Java island and at a distance of about 20 km (12.4 miles) north-west of central Jakarta in the Benda district of Tangerang city lies Jakarta’s main international airport called Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

The airport is named in honor and memory of Indonesia’s first president Kusno Sosrodihardjo (Sukarno) and vice-president Mohammad Hatta. It is the main hub for various airlines, mainly from South-East Asia.

Operation Hours: Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is open 24 hours. However, certain shops, food concessions, on-site accommodations, and public and private transport services may not offer services throughout day and night. About Airport’s Terminal

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has three terminals, Terminals 1, 2, and 3. Terminal 1 is situated on the south side, while both Terminals 2 and 3 are on the north side. Terminal 1 has three sub-terminals prefixed with A, B, and C. There are seven gates in each sub-terminal – A1-A7, B1-B7, and C1-C7, respectively. Terminal 2 also has three sub-terminals and seven gates, prefixed with D, E, and F. Terminal 3 has 10 gates for international flights, 18 gates for domestic flights, and another 10 gates for buses.

All terminals are interconnected via corridors, boarding bridges, and the courtesy SkyTrain. Low-cost domestic carrier airlines are handled at Terminal 1, low-cost international carriers are handled at Terminal 2, and other domestic and international carrier airlines are handled at Terminal 3.

One Luggage is located on the landside of Terminal 2E, Arrivals (open 24 hours); Fesindo Left Baggage Service is located on the landside of Terminal 2D, Arrivals (08:00 till 23:00 hours); Box is located in the landside of Terminal 3, Domestic Arrivals (05:00 till 24:00 hours); and Baggage Solutions is located in landside of Terminal 3, Domestic Parking Building (open 24 hours). Their rates vary between the locations and on the size of the luggage.

Luggage Wrapping: Luggage wrapping services are available at the airport. Bags are wrapped in plastic to protect them from damage and theft. It is located in T1, Check-in areas 1A, 1B, and 1C; T2, Check-in areas 2D, 2E, and 2F; and T3, Check-in area. Per item can cost around IDR 50,000 ($3.35 USD).

Luggage Trolleys/Carts: Luggage carts are available at the airport. These can be found throughout terminals.

Porter Services: Porter services are available at the airport to assist passengers with their baggage. Although porters charge fees, you can negotiate for a lower deal.

ATM: ATMs are available at the airport. You can swipe your bank card and withdraw cash at the airport’s ATMs if you’re running low on cash or need to make cash payments at other services or stores. You can find ATMs located at airside and landside areas of terminals.

Currency Exchange: The currency used in Jakarta is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR or Rp). Currency exchange facilities are available at SHIA airport. There are a total of 12 currency exchange facilities located in Terminal 2 and 9 in Terminal 3.

Banking Services: Banking facilities may be available at the airport. BCA, BDI, BRI, and Mandiri banks operate full-service banking and currency exchange services at SHIA.  Bank BCA is located in Terminal 2E, Departures Hall (08:15 till 15:00 hours); Bank BRI is located on the landside of Terminal 3, Domestic Arrivals (08:00 till 15:00 hours); Bank Mandiri is located in Terminal 2E, Departures Hall (08:00 till 15:00 hours); Terminal 3, Domestic Arrivals (08:00 till 15:00 hours). Bank BNI is located in Terminal 1B, Departures (08:00 till 16:00 hours); Terminal 2F, Departures (08:00 till 16:00 hours) and Terminal 3, Domestic Arrivals (08:00 till 16:00 hours).

Ibis Styles Jakarta Airport: The hotel is located less than 10 minutes from the airport. There is a courtesy airport shuttle available at a frequency of 90 mins from 03:00 to 24:00 hours. Reservations are required.

Bandara International Hotel: The hotel is located less than 10 minutes from the airport. There is an airport shuttle service available 24 hours at a frequency of 30 minutes from the International Arrival 2D Exit Gate. For airport pick-up, provide the hotel with flight details.

Pop! Hotel Airport Jakarta: The hotel is located less than 10 minutes from the airport. Courtesy airport shuttle is available, having the “Pop!” sign on their buses. Shuttles operate at a frequency of 60 minutes from 11:30 till 01:30 hours from the following departure points: Terminal 1 A, B, and C, wait on the 2nd line Airport road, near shuttle bus Damri – Terminal 2 D, wait in front of Hoka Hoka Bento Restaurant, upper floor (departure area) – Terminal 2 E, wait in front of Old Town Restaurant, upper floor (departure area) – Terminal 2 F, wait in front of Koufu Restaurant, upper floor (departure area) and Terminal 3 Ultimate, waiting on the 2nd floor in front Gate 5. Shuttles operate from the hotel every hour between 03:00 and 18:00 hours.

Ground Transport Options To and From Soekarno-Hatta International Airport

Train and Metro Services

SHIA airport is connected with a train transit system for commuting. SHIA airport terminals are connected via the courtesy SkyTrain, which operates at a frequency of 30 minutes from 04:00 till 24:00 hours. The SkyTrain platforms are connected by a sky bridge to Terminals 2 and 3. From Terminal 1, it is across the street.

The airport is also connected to downtown Jakarta (Sudirman Baru or BNI City Station) via Airport Rail Service, an airport train system. The fare can cost around IDR 70,000 ($ USD). Airport Railway Station can be reached by SkyTrain. The train departs at a frequency of 30 minutes from 06:00 to 24:00 hours. From BNI City Station, passengers may transfer to the new MRT, commuter train, or take a bus to dedicated destinations.
