Delta Airlines Baggage Policy

Delta airlines have own set of rules for the baggage allowance and have been made a very flexible policy keeping in mind the needs of customers. It is advised the customers to know the Baggage policy of Delta Airlines. Delta baggage rules include the following for the regular basic fares:

  • 1 personal item is allowed free of cost.
  • In-cabin 1 carry-on item is also allowed free of cost.
  • Checked baggage – Applicable costs according to bag.
  • Fees are applicable according to bag size and weight.
  • Sports equipment is also allowed but on certain sports items, there may have to pay relevant charges.
  • There is a restriction on excess baggage.

Delta Airlines Carry-On Baggage Policy

It allows 1 personal item like a purse, laptop bag, and briefcase and only 1 carry-on bag fee is free for each passenger. You can even do a Cancellation for Delta Airlines through it.

  • Assistive devices like wheelchairs, crutches,  strollers, etc, and other items like umbrellas, diaper bags, jackets, and duty-free items are not counted in carry-on allowance.
  • The item should be in the proper size and fittable in space.

Excess Baggage Restrictions

Delta Airlines has some excess baggage restrictions if traveling from/to SouthAmerica, Mexico, Japan, Africa, Central America, and the Caribbean. If the bag doesn’t meet the weight and size restriction then additional fees and special handling is required.

  • In Delta connection carrier flights up to 4 bags may be checked.

Fees for sports equipment

Sports equipment like fishing equipment, golf bags, skies, lacrosse, and hockey equipment will be accepted in Delta Airlines up to the size and weight and count as one checked bag and associated fees may be applied. Fee for overweight baggage

Delta Airlines will charge for overweight bags when the bag weight is greater than 23 kilograms or 50 pounds on U.S domestic flights. The details are given below:

  • $100 USD extra for per bag if the bag weight is between 24 to 32 kilograms or 51 to 70 pounds.
  • $200 USD extra for per bag if the bag weight is between 33 to 46 kilograms or 71 to 100 pounds.
  • Bags having weight more than 46 kilograms or 100 pounds will not be accepted.

Restricted Items

Many common items are restricted in American airlines by the Transportation Security Administration and Federal Aviation Administration. If you violate the law then you could pay a fine of $250,000 and up to 5 years imprisonment.

  • Damaged batteries, automobiles, boats, or aircraft batteries are not allowed.

Fees for Oversize baggage

Delta Airlines will charge $200.00 USD extra for the oversized bags when the bag size is greater from 160 to 292 centimeters or 63 to 115 linear inches in US domestic flights.
