Finnair is the flag carrier and largest airline in Finland, headquartered at Helsinki Airport in Vantaa, which is its hub. Both national and international air transport in Finland is dominated by Finnair and its subsidiaries.
The biggest shareholder of Finnair Airlines is Finland’s government, which owns 55.8 percent of the shares. Finnair is a part of an airline partnership with Oneworld. In 2017, it transported nearly 11.9 million passengers to more than 100 destinations in Europe, 20 in Asia, and 7 in North America. The airline hired 5,918 people at the end of 2017. Frequent Flyer Program
Finnair’s service for frequent flyers is called Finnair Plus. Passengers are awarded points depending on aircraft type and flight level. A membership level (Basic, Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Platinum Lumo) is awarded after enough kilometers are credited to the passenger’s account. There is primarily a junior category for juveniles. Silver, Gold, Bronze, and Platinum Loom owners have benefits such as premium desks for check-in and priority boarding.
In addition to earning points on flights with Finnair and its affiliate airlines, Finnair Plus owners, along with other service providers, can earn points through the different hotel and rental partners in Finland and worldwide.
Cabin
Business Class
Throughout the Airbus fleet, business class is given. Seats are fitted for individual in-flight entertainment on long-haul flights. In all wide-body aircraft, business class has flatbed seats.
Premium Economy class
The next luxury economy class will debut in 2020 with Finnair. Both the Airbus A330 and Airbus A350 aircraft will feature in the new cabin class.
Economy Comfort class
Finnair’s latest luxury economy offering, debuting on long-hole aircraft in December 2014, is Economy Comfort. It would not be a different class like the economic comfort class of Delta, but an improved product of the economy. In the first 5 rows of Economy, Economy Luxury seats will be placed, providing 34-36′ pitch (3-5′ greater pitch than regular economy seats) and Comfort headrests, with noise-canceling headphones and a comfort pack. Finnair Plus and Oneworld Lights, as well as travelers with a full-fare coach reservation, and all other customers will be given seats for a fee.
Economy Class
On most European flights, coffee, tea, water, milk, and blueberry juice are free. Other drinks, including alcoholic substances, and food items are available for purchase. There are snacks for sale and free non-alcoholic drinks on domestic flights as well as small European flights. The business class offers hot food and free drinks including alcohol. Most intercontinental flights have food options in economy class. On most Airbus aircraft, there is a dedicated snack bar, in the inter-continental business class (except for those with completely lie-flat seats).
In-flight Entertainment
Both Finnair aircraft except Embraer 170 and 190 and Airbus A321-2311 is fitted with LCD video displays or personal entertainment systems (Sharklet). The aircraft of the Airbus A320 Series are tracked to display exterior shots, moving map structures, and muted television shows. With approximately 302 movies, 150 TV programs, 200 music tracks, 24 radio stations, and 15 sports, the Airbus A330 and Airbus A350 aircraft have an AVOD personal entertainment system on both seats.
In-flight Magazine
Blue Wings, Finnair’s English-language in-flight magazine, is distributed by the Finnish media company Sanoma 10 times a year. Blue Wings magazine’s first edition was published in 1980. Business-Class has national and regional publications on both long-haul flights and magazines.
